Follow the Sun — Ecological and Social Design

The project Follow the Sun combines new technologies, design, and traditional crafts.

The result was a bag with an adjustable strap that includes a solar panel, which stores and converts solar energy, allowing for the recharging of electronic devices without the need to stop.

This project aims to be the bridge between design and craftsmanship, where the desire to experiment and an interaction between tradition and technology are evident. This study has a social component, as the embroidery can be done by the elderly in care homes, inmates in prisons, or in social reintegration workshops.

We explored cross-stitch embroidery and a manual process for producing rugs.

Through this interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to value the handmade product by involving artisans in training workshops to transmit and preserve knowledge and techniques. Thus, we strive to combat the extinction of tools or activities through systematization, renewal, and the transmission of expertise.

Through the existing specialized and creative workforce, we sought to enhance and reinvent the handmade product and generate added value.
